Continuing Efforts to Promote Heritage Crafts

Published: 21st March 2024

The recent Heritage Careers Fair, organised by the West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust, was an event aimed at promoting heritage skills and careers within the heritage sector.

Here at Messenger, we welcomed the opportunity to participate in the fair, and sent members of the team to help promote the career opportunities available within the sector. The fair provided a platform for us and other exhibitors to showcase various career pathways within the heritage industry, including conservation, education, archaeology, historic building management, architecture and more. Through talks, demonstrations, and interactions with students, everyone one involved joined together to emphasise the dedication to supporting and fostering interest in heritage-related professions.

This event served as a valuable opportunity for students to learn about volunteering opportunities, career paths, experiences, and receive advice on whether a career in the heritage sector would be suitable for them.

IAN BIRD, DIRECTOR OF OUR STAFFS TEAM COMMENTED REGARDS THE EVENT

“It was good to meet and mingle with both peers and the next generation of construction professionals. We are all very proud of the sector we work in and if we were able to show some young people a side of construction they never knew existed, it will have been a great success”.

Team attendees:

Ian Bird – Regional Director
Daniel Sutton – Trainee Quantity Surveyor
Chris Trumper – Heritage Plasterer
